TORRANCE : Banning-Dorsey Game to Be Held at College

Recognizing a moneymaking opportunity and trying to avoid a resurgence of hostilities between Banning and Dorsey high schools, officials have moved the teams’ annual football game to El Camino College in Torrance.
Banning, in Wilmington, outraged Dorsey students and officials last year by forfeiting a crucial game on the grounds that Dorsey’s home field in Southwest Los Angeles is too dangerous a place to play.
Weeks earlier, two students at the stadium had been sprayed with gunfire during a game between Dorsey and Crenshaw High School, and in a separate incident close the field another student had been shot in the head.
“We could be talking about as much as $30,000 difference . . . assuming we sell out the whole stadium and that at least half the tickets are general admission,” said Richard Browning, administrator for the Los Angeles Unified School District’s senior high school division.
The two teams are scheduled to meet Nov. 14.
