Jeremy Deach’s third field goal, a 43-yard kick with 4 minutes 54 seconds to play, gave Kennedy High a 23-20 victory over Taft on Friday night in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Taft.

The winning field goal was set up when Kennedy defensive lineman Ben Ramirez recovered a fumble at the Toreador 27-yard line. Deach, a 5-foot-11, 175-pound senior, connected on field goals of 40 and 34 yards to proceed his winning kick.

Trailing, 20-6, at halftime, Taft (2-3, 0-2 in league play) came back with two touchdowns by quarterback Mike Ferguson, including a one-yard run with 10:07 to play to tie the score. But Ferguson missed the ensuing point-after kick and he fumbled on Taft’s next possession.
