COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Gill Paces UCI Past Fresno St. in Water Polo

Steve Gill scored four goals to lead fifth-ranked UC Irvine to a 13-5 victory over Fresno State in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation water polo match Saturday at Clovis West High School in Fresno.

It was the fourth consecutive victory for Irvine, which has won five of its last six matches.

Pablo Yrizar, Mark Stevenson and Greg Haynes scored two goals each for the Anteaters (7-6), who put the match out of reach with six consecutive goals in the second quarter to take an 8-1 lead.

Irvine goalie Mike Rall had 11 saves. Oliver Guichardon had two goals to lead Fresno State (4-8).

In California Collegiate Athletic Assn. men’s soccer:

CS Dominguez Hills 2, Chapman 0--Matt Swindle and Mike Hall scored goals to lead Dominguez Hills (5-6-2, 2-3-2) past host Chapman (4-6, 1-6). Goalie Scott Zinser had 14 saves for Chapman.

In Golden State Athletic Conference men’s soccer:

Fresno Pacific 5, Christ College Irvine 1--Barry Swartz and Chris Wing each scored two goals to lead Fresno Pacific past host Christ College Irvine (2-10-1, 0-2-1). Goalie Eddie Huerta had 11 saves for Irvine.

In California Collegiate Athletic Assn. women’s soccer:

Cal State Dominguez Hills 1, Chapman 0--Goalie Tessa Christenson had 18 saves for host Chapman (6-4-1, 0-2-1). Amy Rubin scored the goal for Dominguez Hills (11-1, 4-0).

In nonconference women’s soccer:

UC Irvine 6, Westmont 0--Lori Muzzonigro scored three goals for host Irvine (6-6-2). Muzzonigro tied the school record for goals in a match.

Irvine goalie Amee Chapman posted her sixth shutout, tying Irvine’s single-season record for shutouts. Westmont had only one shot.

In Big West Conference women’s volleyball:

Pacific 3, Cal State Fullerton 0--Charlotte Johansson had eight kills and two digs for Pacific (14-2, 6-1) in its 15-3, 15-9, 15-7 victory over Fullerton (0-12, 0-7).

Lisa Parbst led Fullerton with 10 kills. Teammate Alyssa Donaldson contributed seven kills and eight digs.

Pacific hit .444 in Game 1 of the match, while Fullerton failed to hit .100 in any game.
