What do the boys of summer do when they’re not on the baseball field?

Among other things, they watch television.

With the World Series beginning Saturday, TV Times asked some players what they like to watch:

I watch Clint Eastwood reruns, because he’s pretty much my idol. I sort of think of myself as a modern-day Clint.

--Will Clark, first base, San Francisco Giants

*

I like to watch “The Simpsons.”

--Kevin Mitchell, left field, Seattle Mariners

*

I watch “The Young and the Restless” and tend to like the soaps. I also watch “Knots Landing,” “Bugs Bunny and the Road Runner.”

--Ryne Sandburg, second base, Chicago Cubs

*

I really only watch ESPN now. As a kid I watched TV quite a bit, but “The Partridge Family” and the original “Batman” series were a couple of my favorites.

--Mark Langston, pitcher, Angels

*

I watch “The Simpsons” and “Knots Landing.” I like all baseball games, but only National League games, of course.

--Greg Maddux, pitcher, Chicago Cubs

*

“SportsCenter” on ESPN, because it’s the only thing on when I get home.

--Brett Butler, center field, Dodgers

*

I am a fan of “Cheers” and I watch baseball games.

--Mark Grace, first base, Chicago Cubs

*

I enjoy watching the Discovery Channel. I enjoy the nature stuff--it stimulates the brain cells.

--Chuck Finley, pitcher, Angels

*

I’m just a soap fan. I’m partial to “The Young and the Restless” because I made my acting debut on the small screen on it, during our last trip to the West Coast.

I watch “Seinfeld” and “Late Night with David Letterman” because I like comedy. I look for my favorite movies on TV, like “When Harry Met Sally ...,” “Gone With The Wind” (because it’s a classic), “Dead Poets Society” and “The Graduate.”

--Brady Anderson, left field, Baltimore Orioles

*

My favorite show is “The Cosby Show,” because (Padres owner) Tom Warner produces it and he’s my boss.

--Bruce Hurst, pitcher, San Diego Padres

*

My favorite show is “Who’s the Boss?” because it’s my wife’s favorite show, so we watch it together.

--Andy Benes, pitcher, San Diego Padres

*

I just watch basketball and other sports on television.

--Cal Ripkin Jr., shortstop, Baltimore Orioles

*

I watch “The Arsenio Hall Show.” I like the format. I look forward to seeing “Silence of the Lambs” on television.

--Sam Horn, first base-designated hitter, Baltimore Orioles

*

I like “The Arsenio Hall Show” and “Russell Simmons’ Def Comedy Jam” on HBO. I like comedies and both of those shows are on late at night when I get back from the ball park.

--Ken Griffey Jr., center field, Seattle Mariners

*

I like “The Cosby Show” even though its not on anymore, so I’ll watch it even in repeats. I also watch “In Living Color.”

--Barry Bonds, left field, Pittsburgh Pirates

I watch “Home Improvement” because the guy has a locker room attitude, but doesn’t take himself seriously. I also watch “The Young and the Restless” because my wife got me watching it in the off-season and now I really enjoy it.

--Tim Wallach, first base, Montreal Expos

*

I watch “The Honeymooners.” I am a big fan. I’ll watch it whenever and wherever.

--Andy Van Slyke, center field, Pittsburgh Pirates

*

My favorite show is “60 Minutes,” because the show is provocative and interesting.

--Tony Gwynn, right field, San Diego Padres

*

I like to watch “Martin,” because a young black comic is getting a chance to do a sitcom and it’s funny. As for soaps, I watch “All My Children” and “One Life to Live.” I know Jason from “One Life to Live” because he went to the same high school as my wife, the School for the Creative and Performing Arts in Cincinnati. I also watch ESPN’s “Baseball Tonight.”

--Barry Larkin, shortstop, Cincinnati Reds

*

“Cheers” is a really funny show. The comedy is better than most others.

--Jim Abbott, pitcher, Angels

*

I watch “Knots Landing” because it’s an evening that my wife and I plan on and we spend our hour each week together consistently. I also watch “SportsCenter” on ESPN.

--Gary Carter, catcher, Montreal Expos
