SOUTHLAND ROUNDUP : Cal Lutheran Beats Occidental in Overtime, 17-14

Ben Schuldheisz kicked a 34-yard field goal in overtime Saturday to give Cal Lutheran a 17-14 victory over Occidental in an SCIAC game at Thousand Oaks.

The SCIAC plays a tiebreaker in which each team gets the ball on its opponents’ 25-yard line. Occidental, 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the SCIAC, had the ball first, but Erik Lundquist missed a 37-yard field-goal attempt.

Cassidy O’Sullivan 20-yard touchdown run got Cal Lutheran (2-3, 2-1) even, 14-14.

In other games: Michael Bennett scored with 45 seconds left to give San Diego (5-1-1) a 42-35 victory over Azusa Pacific at Azusa. Paul Ulibarri passed for 234 yards and three touchdowns for Azusa (1-5). . . . Jamal Farmer rushed 19 times for 208 yards and three touchdowns as Cal State Northridge routed Santa Clara, 42-18, at Santa Clara. The Matadors (3-3) held the Broncos (4-3) to six yards rushing. . . . Anthony Jones rushed for 88 yards and a touchdown, and Sean Cheatham gained 70 and scored twice as Redlands (4-1, 3-0) rolled to a 48-0 SCIAC victory over Claremont-Mudd at Redlands. . . . Tony Fadula rushed for 112 yards and a touchdown, and Robert Hicks added 103 yards and two scores as Pomona-Pitzer (3-3, 2-3) held off Whittier, 23-21, in an SCIAC game at Pomona. George Marquecho had 173 yards and two touchdowns for Whittier (0-5, 0-3). . . . Willie Reyna completed 25 of 34 passes for 272 yards and a touchdown as La Verne (4-0-1) scored a 30-7 victory over Menlo (3-3) at La Verne.
