An Anaheim man was arrested after abducting his estranged wife and holding his brother at knifepoint, police said Wednesday.

Police in Westminster arrested Kenneth W. Tarpley Jr., 30, on Tuesday night, about 45 minutes after he forced Christy E. Tarpley, 26, from her Huntington Beach apartment and drove away with her in her car, authorities said.

Officers sent to Christy Tarpley’s apartment at 16761 Viewpoint Lane at 8:48 p.m. met the suspect’s brother, Robbie D. Tarpley of Westminster, who said the suspect assaulted him and then abducted Christy Tarpley at knifepoint, forcing her into her car and then driving away, said Huntington Beach Police Sgt. Jeff Cope.

Police issued a countywide broadcast of the suspect and the woman’s car. Police in Westminster pulled over a car about 9:30 p.m. matching the description of Christy Tarpley’s pickup, finding her and Kenneth Tarpley.

Christy Tarpley was taken to a local hospital, where she was treated for minor injuries and released, Cope said.

Police, who recovered a large knife from Kenneth Tarpley, arrested him on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and kidnaping, Cope said.

He was being held in Huntington Beach City Jail in lieu of $50,000.
