ROUNDUP : CSUN Stops St. Mary’s for 3rd Consecutive Volleyball Win
Cal State Northridge continued its roll in women’s volleyball Saturday, sweeping visiting St. Mary’s, 15-6, 15-10, 15-4 to log its third straight victory.
The Matadors, who have won eight of their last nine matches, were paced by Nancy Nicholls’ 16 kills, 15 digs and .481 hitting percentage.
Teammate Missy Clements added 12 kills and hit at a .455 clip in the nonconference match.
Northridge (18-7) also swept the Gaels on Oct. 11 in Moraga.
St. Mary’s (5-17) had only a .198 kill percentage.
In other women’s volleyball matches:
Redlands d. Cal Lutheran, 15-6, 15-6, 20-18--The Regals outhit host Redlands, 38-32, but could not outscore the Bulldogs in suffering a three-game sweep in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match.
Tara Thomas led Cal Lutheran (7-18, 1-7 in SCIAC play) with nine kills and 21 digs. Aimee Snider recorded 30 of the Regals’ 34 set assists.
Kim Avery had nine kills and Christina Gray 24 assists for Redlands (14-10, 5-4).
MEN’S SOCCER
Cal Lutheran 1, Occidental 0--Preben Krohnstad scored with eight minutes to play to lift the Kingsmen to a SCIAC victory at Occidental.
The win secured the SCIAC East Bracket championship for Cal Lutheran (12-3-2, 9-0 in conference play). The winner outshot the Tigers, 25-6.
Josh Green recorded the shutout for the Kingsmen.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Cal Lutheran 10, Occidental 0--Joey Allard had a hat trick as the Regals clinched the SCIAC championship.
Teammate Rachel Wackerman added two goals while goalie Joanne Vanderwall had to make just two saves to record the shutout for Cal Lutheran (14-3, 10-0).
