Keith Smith of Newbury Park High and Eric Bennett of Simi Valley have combined for 3,970 yards passing, more than all other Marmonte League passers combined. Thirteen other players--starters, backups and assorted backs--have thrown for 3,697 yards. . . .

Buena quarterback Aaron Triana, who threw for 206 yards against Oxnard to raise his season total to 1,031 yards, is the Channel League’s leading passer. . . .

Only one of eight starting quarterbacks in the Northwest Valley Conference passed for more than 80 yards last week. Not that it is necessarily requisite to winning, though. Chatsworth quarterback David Muir passed for 171 yards, but the Chancellors lost to Taft, 12-0.

Rushing: The Channel League is a running league. Case in point: Rio Mesa, Oxnard and Ventura each has rushed for at least three-fourths of its total offense. Rio Mesa has rushed for 2,341 (92%) of its 2,546 yards, and Oxnard has rushed for 1,897 yards (93%) of its 2,038 yards. Ventura has rushed for 1,980 (77%) of its 2,570 yards.

Last week, three Rio Mesa players--Don DiDomizio (127 yards), Junior Liufau (169) and David Belger (141)--ran for more than 100 yards as the Spartans gained all of their 499 yards on the ground. Oxnard rushed for 292 yards and passed for only four against Buena. . . .

Camarillo tailback Fahali Campbell needs 135 yards rushing Friday against Royal to reach 3,000 yards for his career. Campbell notched his fourth 200-plus-yard game of the season last week with a 218-yard effort against Westlake. Campbell, the area’s leading rusher, has rushed for 1,322 yards and scored 12 touchdowns. He has 23 career touchdowns. . . .

Among area City Section teams, Poly has a ground game second only to Sylmar’s. Although the Parrots average 250 yards rushing, their passing game is the worst among area City teams. Poly quarterback Anthony Muse, the only Parrot to throw a pass, has completed 10 of 33 (30%) for 211 yards and a touchdown. . . .
