ROUNDUP : Foothill Clinches Century League Volleyball Title by Beating El Modena

Becca Foltz had 17 kills to lead Foothill to an 8-15, 6-15, 18-16, 15-8, 15-11 victory over El Modena in a Century League girls’ volleyball match Tuesday at El Modena High School.

Outside hitter Karen Anderson added seven kills for Foothill (11-2, 9-0 in league), which clinched the league championship. Lynette Anderson had 15 kills for El Modena (7-2 in league).

In Freeway League girls’ volleyball:

Sunny Hills 3, Troy 0--Led by 14 kills from Rachel Hochgesang, Sunny Hills (14-1, 9-0), which is ranked eighth in the county, won, 15-6, 15-3, 15-2.

In the Garden Grove League:

Kennedy 3, La Quinta 2--Kristy Hensel had 13 kills to lead Kennedy (14-1, 12-1), which clinched the league title with an 8-15, 17-15, 15-4, 8-15, 15-7 victory. Carin Whittington led La Quinta with 20 kills.

In the Olympic League:

Calvary Chapel 3, Whittier Christian 2--Courtney Owens had 30 kills as Calvary Chapel (10-2, 9-2) rallied for a 15-4, 13-15, 11-15, 15-10, 15-12 victory. Bethany Stidham led Whittier Christian (10-5, 7-4) with 13 kills.

Capistrano Valley Christian 3, Ontario Christian 0--Kathleen Bunce had nine kills to lead the Eagles (13-0 in league) to a 15-3, 15-5, 15-7 victory, clinching the league championship.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Laguna Beach 3, Estancia 1--Rachel Wacholder had 22 kills for Laguna Beach (16-1, 8-1), the second-ranked team in Orange County, which won, 15-2, 15-0, 10-15, 15-5.

In the Sea View League:

Corona del Mar 3, University 0--Jennifer Stroffe had 14 kills for host Corona del Mar in a 15-4, 15-1, 15-5 victory. Kristen Campbell had 25 assists for Corona del Mar (15-0, 13-0), top-ranked in the state.

In the South Coast League:

Capistrano Valley 3, Mater Dei 1--The Cougars clinched their fourth consecutive league championship with a 15-8, 11-15, 15-9, 15-4 victory. Shelly Smith had 18 kills for visiting Capistrano Valley (13-2, 8-1).

El Toro 3, San Clemente 1--Tishara Jespersen had 16 kills for El Toro (8-3, 6-2), which won, 15-9, 9-15, 16-14, 15-11.

In the Sunset League:

Edison 3, Ocean View 0--Jill Cernok and Allison Webb each had 10 kills for host Edison (14-1, 12-1), which won, 15-7, 15-3, 15-6. The Chargers, ranked fourth in Orange County, clinched at least a tie for the league title.

In Garden Grove League girls’ tennis:

La Quinta 10, Kennedy 5--Janice Hellie and Julie Do swept in doubles, 6-0, 6-0, 6-2, for host La Quinta (15-3, 12-0), which clinched the league title in a match shortened by darkness.

In the South Coast League:

Dana Hills 15, Capistrano Valley 3--Anna Zaricki and Elizabeth Stevens each lost only one game in sweeping their singles sets for visiting Dana Hills (10-0 in league), the league champion. Capistrano Valley (9-9, 6-4 in league), the defending league champion, finished third in league.

In Garden Grove League water polo:

Los Amigos 20, La Quinta 2--Scott Simmons scored seven goals to help Los Amigos (18-8, 6-0) remain unbeaten in league play.

In a nonleague match:

Capistrano Valley 10, Edison 3--Jeremy Braxton-Brown had seven goals for Capistrano Valley (23-2), ranked second in Orange County.
