COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Bowman Scores Winning Goal for Golden West

Kurt Bowman scored the winning goal with three seconds remaining to lead Golden West to a 10-9 victory over Grossmont in the championship match at the Southern California Regional championships Saturday at Belmont Plaza.

Grossmont led, 9-8, late in the fourth quarter when Joaquin Felsmann scored for Golden West with 20 seconds remaining to tie the score, 9-9, and set up Bowman’s second goal of the game.

Ted Simpkins scored four goals to lead Golden West and Lonnie Peek added two goals.

In the championship game of the Chaffey women’s basketball tournament:

Orange Coast 79, Chaffey 65--Ricarda Kazmer had 17 points to lead Orange Coast (2-0) past Chaffey (1-1) to win the title.

In nonconference women’s basketball:

Saddleback 104, Grossmont 45--Tara Wolff had 24 points and 13 rebounds to lead Saddleback (1-0) past host Grossmont (0-1). Amanda Valentino scored 20 points for Saddleback.

In the third-place game at the Barstow men’s basketball tournament:

Cypress 57, Barstow 54--Anthony Livingston scored the winning basket with 18 seconds left to lead Cypress (2-1) past Barstow (1-2). Livingston had 18 points.

In nonconference men’s basketball:

Saddleback 84, Miracosta 67--Jeff Foster and John Molle each scored 20 points to lead Saddleback (1-0) past host Mira Costa (1-1).

Rancho Santiago 92, College of the Canyons 88 (OT)--Ruben Oronoz scored 23 points including six three-pointers and Jos Foss to lead visiting Rancho Santiago (1-1). Rasaan Hall scored 33 points for College of the Canyons (0-2).

Southwestern 80, Orange Coast College 78--Southwestern withstood a 27-point effort from Orange Coast’s Darren Crooks to win both teams’ season opener.
