OUTLOOK

The Heralds slipped to a tie for fourth place with Cerritos Valley Christian in the Olympic League standings last year after losing only four of 14 games and finishing third the previous season. And with juniors forming the bulk of this year’s team, Brown might have a rough time getting Whittier Christian to challenge for the title. But this is the time of year to be optimistic, and Brown is no different than other coaches. “I honestly think we could be in the hunt if we develop in December,” he said. One player who has already developed and figures to be a key contributor for the Heralds is Tyler Ream, who averaged 10.8 points last season. He will guard the middle, although Brown wishes he could use him at forward. “Tyler has the kind of skills that could be easily used around the perimeter,” Brown said. “He’s very quick for his size and fills the wings very well when he has a chance to be out on the fast break.” Ream’s younger brother, Trevor, could lend additional muscle up front. “We plan to use him significantly,” Brown said. Hyde, the most valuable player on last year’s junior varsity team, and Zieman will battle for starting positions.
