OUTLOOK
An Argonaut team laden with seniors gives Van Cleave reason for optimism. “I would consider us right behind Kennedy,” Van Cleave said. “I think we can be right there and compete.” Archer, who averaged 20 points, leads a core of four returning starters that includes Craig, Green and Nguyen. Sebreros, the workhorse tailback on the school’s football team, assumes the point guard duties after playing the position last season in a backup role. Pray, who is up from the junior varsity, takes over at center. “He’s played well during the summer and fall,” Van Cleave said. “He’s really a hard worker. If I had to pick my most improved player since September, he’d be the man.” Campuzano, who Van Cleave says “can jump out of the gym,” gives Garden Grove depth in the backcourt. If the Argonauts have a problem, it is size. Only three of the projected six or seven most frequently used players stands six feet or taller. “We don’t have a lot of height, but we’ve got quickness,” Van Cleave said. The Argonauts were fifth in league last year after a third-place finish the previous season.
