In the Fullerton tournament:

Katella 45, Western 32--Katella used strong defense and a strong fourth quarter to win the championship game.

Western, which had several fourth-quarter scoring droughts, still managed a mild comeback attempt, coming within six, 38-32, with 1:33 left. Katella, which outscored the Pioneers, 21-12, in the quarter, held Western scoreless the rest of the way.

Katella out-rebounded Western, 42-33, led by forward Stephanie Toon, who had 12, and double- and triple-teamed Western’s shooters.

Four Katella players scored in double figures, while no Western player was able to score more than nine.

Western took itself out of the game defensively. By the end of the third quarter, three Western players had four fouls, which enabled Katella to score more freely. “That helped us out a lot,” Katella Coach Shelly Noble said. “That was our goal-to get (Kwanzaa Gibson and Charlotte Watley) in foul trouble.”

Gibson and Christine Collins each fouled out with less than a minute left in the game.

In the consolation final:

Santiago 66, Garden Grove 43--America Robledo scored a game-high 32 points for Santiago.
