Henderson loses the entire starting lineup from a team that finished in a three-way tie for the league title with Western and Savanna. And the Wildcats lost their top substitute and leading rebounder from last season, forward Jason Celmer, to a season-ending knee injury. Celmer, a 6-foot-3 senior, had been rehabilitating a dislocated kneecap, but injured it again the first week of practice. “Doctors did an MRI and found three torn ligaments and cartilage damage,” Henderson said. Celmer’s injury opens a starting position for Spurlock, who’s up from the junior varsity team that went 20-3 last season and won the league. “We had a good JV team last year and our guys have huge hearts and play hard,” Henderson said. “We’ll be satisfied with nothing less than winning (the school’s) 11th league title in the past 16 years.” The Wildcats have a tough nonleague schedule, playing in the Newport Harbor and Glendora tournaments.
