OUTLOOK

Wilson took over for Rich Skelton, who resigned to devote more time to his duties as the school’s athletic director. And he inherited a program in need of a jump-start. Coming off a 2-22 season, he took his players to the Sierra Nevada over the summer to instill a little togetherness. There weren’t any hoops to shoot at on the week-long trip, but Wilson thinks it did some good. He’s still hoping for needed leadership from his more experienced players and that the team becomes a tad more physical, but he’s optimistic. “I would hope we will be competitive,” he said. “I’d like to think we’d have a shot at third place. That’s a big step up for our team. I think it’s going to be a big dogfight with all the other teams (for third).” Like other league coaches, he’s picking Mater Dei and Capistrano Valley for the top two spots. And that leaves the Dolphins to contend with El Toro, Mission Viejo and San Clemente for third. “There are still a lot of things we still have to put together,” Wilson said.
