Cal State Dominguez Hills has named Greg Bistline, assistant athletic director at the school the past four years, as its acting athletic director effective Jan. 1.

Bistline, 38, replaces Dan Guerrero, who will leave Tuesday to become athletic director at UC Irvine.

Guerrero said that under Bistline’s direction, the school’s athletic booster organization--the Toro Athletic Associates--has significantly increased its funds and membership.

“I am leaving the athletic department in very capable hands,” Guerrero said. “The athletic department has enjoyed a period of tremendous growth over the past four years, and a lot of that is due to the vision and the work ethic Greg has brought to the program.”

Before arriving at Dominguez Hills, Bistline served as assistant director of the Titan Athletic Foundation at Cal State Fullerton in 1988. He has also been an assistant football coach at Indiana State and New Mexico and has held administrative positions at Missouri, Loyola of Maryland and Texas.

He is looking forward to the challenge at Dominguez Hills.

“I appreciate the opportunity to serve the athletic department, the university and the community in this capacity,” Bistline said. “I am proud to have had the opportunity to work under the direction of Dan Guerrero, who I feel is one of the top athletic adminstrators in the nation.”

Dominguez Hills will start its search for a permanent replacement for Guerrero in late January.
