Fountain Valley’s goal is to win 15 or 16 games and improve upon the past two seasons in which the Barons have won only 17 games. It could happen with the addition of some fine juniors and sophomores who have come from two successful lower-division teams. The Barons’ JV was league co-champion with Edison and its most valuable player, Leimbach, figures to see plenty of playing time this season. The freshman team finished second in the league and its two top players, Arvesen and Domingo, have been elevated to the varsity. Billingsley was encouraged with Domingo’s 16-point effort against a good Westchester team in the Cerritos-Gahr tournament. “I’ve been real happy with our young players,” he said. “We have a realistic goal of finishing in the top half of our league and winning a couple of playoff games. I’d be real happy with 16 wins and an 8-6 finish in the league.” Petrosian has been the team’s steadiest player. The Barons’ program has been hit particularly hard by Mater Dei. Four Mater Dei players--guard Kamran Sufi, forward Marmet Williams and brothers Shaun and Chris Jackson--live within Fountain Valley’s district. “The line around here is that Mater Dei is ‘Fountain Valley East,’ ” Billingsley said.
