VALLEY ROUNDUP : Tip-in Helps St. Francis Seal a Win

Braden Weber tipped in a missed free throw with 30 seconds to play to help lift St. Francis High to a 54-49 nonleague victory over South Pasadena on Monday night at St. Francis.

With St. Francis ahead by two points, the Golden Knights’ Danny Bir missed a free throw, but Weber got the rebound and tapped the ball in to give St. Francis (3-2) a four-point lead.

Six-foot-11 Chris Ott led the Golden Knights with 14 points. Dave Craig (11 points) and Jaason Pruett (10 points) also scored in double figures.

The game was tied, 23-23, at halftime. Neither team led by more than six points the entire game.

In other boys’ basketball games:

Oak Park 58, Village Christian 57--The Crusaders’ Charlie Kim made one of two free throws with Village Christian (6-3) down by two points with five seconds to play in a nonleague game. Oak Park (3-2) was led by Ryan Garth with 15 points.

Village Christian’s Dave Fennell and Bill Oliver scored 18 points apiece to lead the team. Oliver also grabbed 10 rebounds. Fennell is 29 points from tying the school all-time scoring record.

Glendale 52, Santa Fe 37--The Dynamiters won despite making only 14 of 32 free throws in the game and 10 of 24 in the fourth quarter. Glendale (5-3) held a lead of at least eight points through the second half.

Hai Tran led the Dynamiters’ with 11 points.

Santa Paula 59, Fillmore 44--Cardinal Darin Hendren scored 15 points to lead Santa Paula (3-5) in a nonleague game at Fillmore (1-5). Teammate Raymon Cordova added 14 points.

Andy Torres had a game-high 20 points for the Flashes.

Moorpark 55, Carpinteria 54--Micah Hanson scored 16 points to lead Moorpark (2-4)

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Crescenta Valley 70, Burbank 46--Keri Peterson scored 11 points in the first quarter to lead the Falcons to a nonleague victory against previously unbeaten Burbank.

Peterson finished with 15 points. While Burbank (3-1) shut down Peterson in the second half, Sarah Haginan scored 12 of her 18 points. Nada Kawar also scored 15 for Crescenta Valley (5-1).

Guard Jocelyn Ferialdi scored 11 points to lead the Bulldogs.

BOYS’ SOCCER

San Fernando 1, Taft 0--Aristeo Ochoa scored the game’s only goal in the 14th minute of the first half. San Fernando (7-4-1, 5-2-1 in Northwest Valley Conference play) finishes the regular season tied for first place with Taft.

Marshall Fundamental 2, Village Christian 1--The Crusaders (1-2) dropped into the consolation bracket of the La Canada tournament. Village Christian will meet La Canada today.

Birmingham 2, Grant 1--Gabriel Ortega scored the winning goal on a penalty kick with two minutes to play. Birmingham (6-1-3 in Valley Pac-8 Conference play) clinched its fourth consecutive conference title.
