A juvenile was arrested Tuesday following a foiled carjacking attempt in the parking lot of a Canoga Park shopping center, the Los Angeles Police Department said.
The youth, whose identity was not released because of his age, was held on suspicion of attempted robbery following the 1:20 p.m. incident, Sgt. Dan Mastro said.
Officer Michael Sterling was on routine patrol at Topanga Plaza at Victory and Topanga Canyon boulevards when he heard a group of people screaming and yelling in the parking lot and saw a youth flee the area.
Sterling detained the youth and later learned that he had tried to steal a black 1991 Nissan Maxima from a woman at gunpoint, Mastro said. The gun was not loaded and the woman was not hurt.
