With the loss of county player of the year Jodi Anton, now at USC, and no seniors returning from last year’s Division III State championship team, could this be a “down” year for the mighty LadyCats? Don’t count on it. There’s still plenty of firepower returning, and the 1993-94 season is too scary to think about. Erickson, now a junior, returns at point guard, where she has been the best in the county the last two years. Hudson, a 6-1 center, had an outstanding sophomore season and returns with added strength and experience. Beckley, a 5-10 junior, averaged 10.3 points and six rebounds as a sophomore and is tough inside and out. Trakh’s factory boasts some solid returnees in Rhodabarger, a junior guard who is a standout defender, and Moulin, whose deadly outside shooting led the junior varsity in scoring with a 15.0 average. Top newcomers are Llanes, a quick sophomore guard; Jordan, a junior forward, and Miller, a talented guard whom Trakh regards as one of the county’s top freshmen. Brea-Olinda’s goal of reaching the State finals for the fifth consecutive year appears very realistic.
