Periolat took center stage while Jessica Trippet, a Times Orange County first-team selection last season, sat out the first two games of the Cypress basketball tournament for disciplinary reasons. Periolat earned tournament MVP honors by averaging 15 points and five assists in four games. In the quarterfinals, Periolat, scored 20 points in a 78-47 victory over Savanna before Trippet returned for the semifinal and final. “Aimee stepped it up when she had to,” Marina Coach Pete Bonny said. “This was a solid tournament for us.” Periolat, a second-team All-Sunset League selection last season, scored 14 points--13 in the first half--to lead Marina to a 62-43 victory over Los Alamitos in the championship game. The Vikings opened their season with a two-game tournament in Oregon where they lost to Eugene, 74-59. Marina also lost to Oregon City, 71-44. “So far we’re unbeaten in California,” Bonny said.

Other top performers:

Brooke Davis and Elizabeth Willimse, helped Los Alamitos reach the final of the Cerritos soccer tournament Monday. In the semifinals, Willimse scored twice in a 5-2 victory over Temple City. In the quarterfinals, Davis scored the only goal in a 1-0 upset of Canyon, which was ranked second in Orange County.

Mollie Flint, the Estancia basketball tournament MVP who scored 29 points and made the game-winning shot in the championship game to help Corona del Mar defeat Estancia, 52-50.

Emily Keeler, whose goal and assist helped Troy defeat Cypress, 2-0, in the championship game of the Magnolia tournament.

Kristin Weddick, the Orange Lutheran tournament MVP who averaged 15 points for the tournament and scored 12 points to help the Lancers to a 44-41 victory over Calvary Chapel in the final.
