OUTLOOK As the holiday tournaments unwind and Olympic League action gets ready to start in two weeks, the Eagles are eager to test their 1992-93 squad in one of the strongest small-school leagues in the Southern Section. Shelton, who goes into his sixth season with the Eagles, calls the current team the best in the school’s history. And the Eagles certainly have the quality personnel--six returning lettermen, including three starters--to support that assessment. Leading the way are Elliott, Giosa, Kovacic and Etheridge. The first three, Shelton said, could be potential all-county players “with some hard work.” Elliott was an all-league first-team selection last season when she averaged 12.3 points and 13.6 rebounds. She combines with Bradberry and Croatian-born Kovacic, both up from the junior varsity, to give the Eagles good height in the front line. Giosa, the point guard, averaged 5.6 points and 2.8 assists last season and Etheridge averaged about two points. “Heidi and Marcy are my mainstays,” Shelton said. The Eagles have finished with the same league record and in the middle of the pack the past two seasons, but Shelton feels they can challenge for the title. “Winning the league is a reality this year,” he said.
