HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Victory Puts Monroe in Final, 70-41

Dante Cain scored 16 points to help Monroe High to a 70-41 victory over Canoga Park on Wednesday night in the semifinals of the L.A. Invitational tournament.

Monroe (8-2), which will meet Leuzinger in the final, held Canoga Park scoreless for eight minutes in the first half.

In other boys’ basketball games:

El Camino Real 76, Grant 73 (2 OTs)--Sam Sarpong scored 10 of his team’s 12 overtime points to lead El Camino Real to a come-from-behind victory in a consolation game of the L.A. Invitational.

Sarpong, a senior guard who finished with a game-high 30 points, helped El Camino Real (6-2) rally from a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter. Grant (4-5) has played six overtime periods in its past three games.

Simi Valley 53, Las Vegas 32--The Pioneers finished 3-1 in the El Dorado tournament in Las Vegas by winning the consolation championship. Jeff Barlow scored 11 points to lead Simi Valley (7-2).

Earlier in the day, Simi Valley defeated Las Vegas Vocational Tech, 85-47. Jeremy Roberts scored 17 points, including five three-point baskets.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Westlake 58, El Camino Real 27--Tracy Young scored 18 points and Shanon Sincock added 14 to guide the Warriors (5-2) to a consolation win in the Simi Valley tournament.

Westlake outscored El Camino Real, 14-2, in the first quarter.

Kennedy 56, Oxnard 29--Shaneya Harris scored 29 points to lead the Golden Cougars to an 11th-place finish in the Simi Valley tournament. Keosha Tidwell added 18 points for Kennedy.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Quartz Hill 3, Saugus 0--Jeff Bowne scored two goals, leading the Rebels to a nonleague victory over Saugus (3-1-1).
