Saddleback dominated the football season--and the postseason individual awards.

Marcellus Chrishon, a sophomore running back, and Jeff Pease, a sophomore linebacker, both from Saddleback, were named first-team J.C. Grid-Wire All-Americans.

The Gauchos went 11-0 and won the J.C. Grid-Wire national championship.

Chrishon led the nation in rushing with 1,748 yards. Pease, the emotional leader of the Gauchos’ defense, had 10 or more tackles in each of the final six games.

Bryan Hand, an offensive lineman from Orange Coast, was also a first-team selection. Hand has signed to play at Arizona next fall.

Frank Marvitz, a defensive end from Golden West, was a second-team selection. Marvitz set a Golden West single-season record for sacks with 15.

Orange County was also well-represented in the All-American honorable-mention selections.

On the list were running back Eric Washington (OCC); offensive linemen Chris Rae (Golden West) and Mark Welker (Saddleback); linebacker Dwight Chornomud (OCC), and defensive backs Keith Burke (OCC) and Jeremy Brion (Saddleback).

The J.C. Grid-Wire also picks a Scholar/Athlete All-American team. Eric Keck, an offensive lineman from Saddleback, and Dan Petrone, a linebacker from Orange Coast, made the team.

Quoc Pham, a defensive back from OCC, was an honorable mention.

The J.C. Athletic Bureau named Chrishon the offensive player of the year and Pease the defensive player of the year in Southern California.

Welker and teammate Ken Koppelman (a tight end) also made the first team on offense.

On the defensive first team were lineman Kaio Aumua (Rancho Santiago), Saddleback’s Bernie Chapman (defensive back), OCC’s Justin Sogolin (punter), Pease and Brion.
