Katz knew it would take some time to re-establish Westminster girls’ basketball when he took over last season. “There’s no tradition of girls’ basketball here because there’s been a revolving door of coaches for the last 10 years,” Katz said. “We’re trying to change that with some long-term goals and a new commitment from the players.” His efforts weren’t helped by the loss of Sarah Arganda, who would have started at forward but will be unable to play because of medical reasons. Katz said the Lions are better than they were a year ago but that it will take some time for Westminster to emerge in the tough Sunset League. “It’ll take us three or four years to make the program a consistent championship contender.” Still, there is good news. The Lions return Kavan, who averaged seven points as a freshman and has emerged as one of the league’s top three-point shooters. She has already scored a season-high 38 points this year and has several games over 20. Also back his Angie Nguyen, who adds additional outside range. Farroux is a good rebounder who is progressing well after missing most of last season with a knee injury.
