COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Golden West’s Basco, Iwamasa Lead 71-47 Rout of Eastern Utah

Four starters scored in double figures as Golden West buried Eastern Utah, 71-47, Sunday in the opening round of the Fullerton women’s basketball tournament.

Cinnamon Basco had 18 points and 18 rebounds and Melanie Iwamasa had 17, Frances Oda 12 and Erika Miller 11 for Golden West (16-2), the fifth-ranked team in the state.

The Rustlers used a 16-0 run in the first half to build a 41-16 halftime lead. Golden West plays Phoenix at 8:45 tonight in the second round.

In other Fullerton Tournament games:

Fullerton 63, College of the Canyons 48--Traci Conte scored 14 and Carrie Glodt had 13 for Fullerton, which led, 27-13, at the half.

Los Angeles Valley 55, Cypress 50--Sandra Bernardo had 17 points for Cypress (9-6). The Chargers play Antelope Valley at 1:45 p.m. today in the consolation round.

In the DeAnza Tournament:

Lassen 88, Orange Coast 73--OCC (15-1), the fourth-ranked team in the state, lost for the first time this season. Lassen, the defending state champion and ranked second this season, is 11-1.

In the Hancock men’s basketball tournament:

Irvine Valley 111, Modesto 83--Chris Kostoff scored 30 points, including seven three-pointers, for Irvine Valley (8-6). Gabe Higa added 23 for Irvine, which made 15 of 15 free throws.
