PREP SOCCER ROUNDUP : El Toro Wins, 5-1, Advances

Sherri Kaminski and Yvonne Dalton scored twice as El Toro, the top-ranked team in Orange County, beat No. 8 El Modena, 5-1, Monday in the second round of the Foothill girls’ soccer tournament.

El Toro (7-0-1) advances to today’s quarterfinals to play Capistrano Valley in one quarterfinal at noon. Edison takes on Trabuco Hills, and Simi Valley plays Encinitas San Dieguito at noon. Marina plays South Torrance at 3 p.m. in the other quarterfinal.

Kristi Hales scored in the second half for El Modena.

In other Foothill tournament games:

Edison 5, North Torrance 1--Tami Letterman scored twice for Edison (7-3).

Trabuco Hills 1, Chino Don Lugo 1 (Trabuco Hills wins on penalty kicks, 3-1)--Lindsay Rogers, Theresa Summa and Erika Knoop converted penalty kicks to lead Trabuco Hills (8-2) to a second-round victory. Earlier, Trabuco Hills beat Santa Barbara San Marcos, 7-2, in the first round.

In pool play of the Ocean View girls’ tournament:

Mater Dei 3, Lakewood Mayfair 0--Katie Ward scored twice for Mater Dei (7-3-2). Goalkeepers Maria Nicholl and Amanda Fox combined for two saves.

Newport Harbor 2, La Quinta 0--Jenny St. Sure scored two goals, one in each half, for Newport Harbor (4-3). Arcadia then beat Newport Harbor, 3-0, in the second round.

Estancia 5, El Segundo 0--Tracie Manz scored twice to lead Estancia (5-3-2).

In the Marina boys’ tournament:

Huntington Beach 0, El Toro 0 (Huntington Beach wins on penalty kicks, 4-3)--Jeremy Buttson, Raffael Nobre, Phil Adam and Brian Bible scored on their penalty kicks to lead Huntington Beach (6-4) to a second-round victory. Earlier, Huntington Beach defeated Norwalk Glenn, 6-1, in the first round. Fountain Valley plays Huntington Beach and Santa Barbara plays University at 9 a.m. in the quarterfinals, and Marina plays Burbank Burroughs and Corona del Mar plays San Clemente at 10:30 a.m.

Fountain Valley 1, Mater Dei 1 (Fountain Valley wins on penalty kicks, 3-0)--David Moore scored for Fountain Valley (6-1-4).

In the Simi Valley tournament:

Capistrano Valley 7, Santa Paula 0--Kyle Berger and John Brull each scored twice for Capistrano Valley (7-3-2). Earlier, Capistrano Valley beat Newbury Park, 2-0, in the first round.
