Sometimes, it takes three.
In the case of the Thousand Oaks High basketball team, that meant the trio of Denny LeVine, Jason Hartman and Peter Lauer, who combined for nine three-point baskets to lead the Lancers to an 83-53 rout of Buena on Tuesday in the semifinals of the Ventura tournament.
LeVine, a senior guard, made all four of his three-point shots--one in each quarter--to finish with 12 points. Hartman, a 6-foot-6 junior forward, also was perfect from long distance, making both of his three-point attempts en route to a game-high 21 points.
Lauer, a senior guard, made three of six three-point attempts and finished with 12 points.
Thousand Oaks (9-1) made nine of 14 three-point shots, with two misses coming in the final two minutes. “That’s about as well as we’ve shot that shot,” Thousand Oaks Coach Ed Chevalier said. “It really helped a lot. We were able to generate a lot of offense.”
Buena (1-7) surprised the Lancers in the first quarter by taking a 13-9 lead. But after two free throws by center Nick Foster, LeVine and Hartman made back-to-back three-pointers.
