Palmdale High tried to disarm one dangerous weapon Saturday night in the championship game of the Thousand Oaks girls’ basketball tournament. But the Falcons learned early they were dealing with multiple warheads and were bombed by Thousand Oaks, 60-44.
Palmdale (10-2) held standout forward Marion Jones to 15 points with a double-teaming defense, but the Falcons could not contain an arsenal that included long-range bombers Jennifer Bockus and Melissa Wood.
Bockus, who moved to the area from Massachusetts this summer, hit four three-point shots and finished with a team-high 16 points. Wood added 15.
“We’re not one of those teams that has only one good player,” Bockus said. “There are a lot of players on this team that can hurt you.”
Thousand Oaks (12-0) forced the Falcons into 10 first-half turnovers, seven in the first quarter when the Lancers limited Palmdale to eight shots and built an 18-8 lead.
With Bockus firing in three consecutive three-pointers in the second quarter, Thousand Oaks pulled ahead, 30-11. A Wood three-pointer 2 1/2 minutes into the third period gave the Lancers a 45-23 lead.
“Where we play our best ball is when everyone contributes,” said Jones, who also had 13 rebounds and six blocked shots and won tournament most-valuable-player honors.
Chino 54, Hart 50--Amee Pina made eight three-pointers and scored 25 points to lead Chino to third place. Center Shannon Martin scored 21 for Hart (8-5).
