COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Free Throws Make the Difference in SCC’s 97-89 Victory Over Dordt

Danin Bryant scored 32 points and teammate Mike West added 27 to lead host Southern California College to a 97-89 victory over Dordt, Iowa, Saturday at SCC.

Behind Galen Van Rocket’s 24 points, Dordt (4-8) drew within three points with four minutes remaining, but the Vanguards sealed the victory on the free-throw line. In all, they made 33 of 38 free-throw attempts.

Bryant had four assists, made 10 of 10 free throws, and 11 of 15 shots from the field. West had 14 rebounds and made 16 of 18 free throws. John Naro added 18 points, including four three-pointers for SCC (6-6).

In another nonconference game:

Ottawa 67, Christ College Irvine 66 (OT)--D’Andre Brown had 22 points and eight rebounds and Agustin Heredia had 19 points and six assists for the host Eagles.

In Big West Conference women’s basketball:

Cal State Long Beach 82, UC Irvine 74--Karie Yoshioka scored a career-high 30 points, including nine three-pointers, but the visiting Anteaters squandered a 16-point lead midway through the second half.

Irvine led, 64-48, with 11 minutes 50 seconds remaining before the 49ers (2-6) went on a 24-7 run. Marsheela Harriston’s triple-double, 19 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists, led Long Beach.

Jinelle Williams had 14 points and 10 rebounds and Allah-mi Basheer had 15 rebounds for Irvine (1-7).

UC Santa Barbara 87, Cal State Fullerton 64--Becky Brown scored 22 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in 24 minutes of play to lead host UC Santa Barbara over Cal State Fullerton. Lauren Goldstine added 19 points for UC Santa Barbara. Heidi James led Cal State Fullerton with 18 points.

In nonconference women’s basketball:

CS San Bernardino 69, Southern California College 50--Jamie Zitterkopf had 15 points and eight rebounds and Cyndi Lyons had 14 points for SCC (7-3).
