Former child actor Todd Bridges was charged Wednesday with felony drug and firearms violations, Burbank police said.
Bridges, 27, of Sun Valley, was arrested Dec. 29 while driving in Burbank. Officers found methamphetamine, or “speed,” and a loaded 9-millimeter Ruger handgun in his car, police said. He is expected to be arraigned Jan. 14 in Burbank Municipal Court.
The onetime co-star of the television show “Diff’rent Strokes” said afterward that he borrowed the car and was not aware of what was inside.
He was charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance and one count of transporting a controlled substance while armed with a handgun. If convicted of both counts, he could face up to nine years in prison, Detective Craig Ratliff said.
Last week, Bridges resigned as head of a youth center that he founded, citing bad publicity from his recent arrest.
Despite a history of drug abuse, Bridges said he is now clean and sober.
He founded Todd Bridges Youth Foundation two years ago after his 1989 acquittal in the shooting of a drug dealer in a crack-cocaine house.
