GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Capistrano Valley Edges Mission Viejo

Guard Angie White scored 14 points, including the game clinching basket with nine seconds left, as Capistrano Valley beat Mission Viejo, 53-50, in a South Coast League game Thursday at Mission Viejo.

Susan Scott had 16 points for Capistrano Valley (12-2, 1-0), which is ranked fifth in Orange County. Maggie Gorska had 18 points for Mission Viejo (10-4, 0-1).

In other South Coast League games:

Dana Hills 48, San Clemente 34--Karun Grossman had 16 points and Nicolle Zuniga added 11 points and six steals for Dana Hills (10-2, 1-0). Michelle MacIntyre led San Clemente with 12 points.

Mater Dei 69, El Toro 43--Leticia Oseguera had 22 points and 20 rebounds for Mater Dei (11-3, 1-0), which led, 32-17, at the half. Adrienne Botana added 16 points for the Monarchs. Janell Jewett had 21 points and nine rebounds for El Toro.

In the Freeway League:

Sunny Hills 45, Buena Park 19--Forward Marla Roque had 14 points and eight rebounds for host Sunny Hills in its league opener. Randi Kameoka contributed eight points for the Lancers (5-0, 1-0).

Troy 61, Sonora 40--Jennie Gadd scored 18 points and Audra Gamst had 11 for Troy (12-3, 1-0). Chris Nonnis led Sonora (5-8, 0-1) with 14.

In the Empire League:

Katella 47, Esperanza 37--Kelsi Armbruster, Rachel Davis and Stephanie Toon scored 12 points each for Katella (11-2, 1-0). Melanie Wall led Esperanza with 14 points in the league opener.

Los Alamitos 57, Loara 40--Forward Cavetra Mitchell and center Jenny McCullough each had 12 points for visiting Los Alamitos (7-7, 1-0).

In the Olympic League:

Capistrano Valley Christian 44, Calvary Chapel 29--Marcy Giosa scored 12 points and Heidi Elliott added 10 points and 14 rebounds for Capistrano Valley Christian (9-3, 2-0). Blythe Linsey scored 16 points and grabbed 16 rebounds for Calvary Chapel (7-5, 0-1).

Valley Christian 50, Whittier Christian 36--Karen Hibma and Alysia Veasley each had 10 points for host Valley Christian (12-2, 2-0). Whittier Christian is 7-5, 1-1.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Laguna Beach 46, Laguna Hills 40--Marisa Waian scored 11 points to lead Laguna Beach (7-7) in a league opener.

Trabuco Hills 43, Century 34--Dyanna Hatch scored 12 points for Trabuco Hills (7-7) in a league opener. Ruth Vallejo scored 13 points for Century.

Costa Mesa 64, Estancia 22--Senior guard Olivia DiCamilli hit three three-pointers and scored 17 points and Heather Robinson added 15 points to lead Costa Mesa (11-4, 1-0). Estancia fell to 6-5, 0-1.

In the Sunset League:

Fountain Valley 66, Ocean View 64 (OT)--Julie Murdent scored 18 points, including two free throws with no time left in overtime, to lead Fountain Valley (8-5, 2-0).

Ocean View (7-6, 1-1), which played the last two minutes and 11 seconds with four players, got 22 points from Theresa Martini.

Edison 62, Santa Ana 54--With a strong second and third quarter, guards Joan Paje and Janette Oriza, each with 18 points, helped defeat Santa Ana.

Leila Ryan had 11 assists and four steals for the Chargers. Edison is 8-4, 2-0 and Santa Ana is 6-4, 0-2.

Marina 44, Rosary 34--Forward Jessica Trippet dominated the game for visiting Marina with 19 points, 15 rebounds and five steals.

Karla Robbins also contributed for Marina (9-3, 2-0) with five steals and nine points. Addy Benard had 12 points and 11 rebounds for Rosary (3-7, 0-2).

In the Century League:

El Modena 50, Villa Park 36--Jamie Shine scored 21 points to lead El Modena (4-7, 1-0).

In nonleague games:

Downey Calvary Chapel 30, Liberty Christian 26--Downey (10-1) outscored host Liberty Christian (5-6), 8-0, in the second quarter to take a 17-4 halftime lead.
