Lamond Murray scored 23 points, helping California overcome the absence of center Brian Hendrick and hand Oregon its 14th consecutive Pacific 10 Conference road loss, 82-65, Thursday.

Cal (8-2) won a Pac-10 opener for the first time since a 74-70 victory over UCLA in 1988. Oregon (7-6) has not won a road game in the Pac-10 since it beat Cal, 83-70, in Berkeley on Feb. 3, 1991.

Hendrick, the only senior on a team loaded with freshmen and sophomores, missed his second consecutive game because of a swollen right knee.

Murray and Alfred Grigsby, who had 18 points, picked up the pace, aided by guard Jason Kidd’s 14 points and eight assists. Murray’s eight rebounds were a game high.

Antoine Stoudamire paced the Ducks with 18 points.

Cal held Oregon without a field goal in the final 4:15 of the first half and took a 41-23 halftime lead. The Bears then outscored Oregon, 13-6, to start the second half.

Oregon State 77, Stanford 66--Scott Haskin scored 23 points and grabbed 14 rebounds and Chad Scott added 18 points as Oregon State won at Stanford.

The Beavers evened their record at 5-5. Stanford fell to 5-7.

Oregon State countered three Cardinal rallies in the second half to ensure the victory. Stanford pulled to within 45-43 with 11:46 to play, but Scott made a three-pointer that began a 7-0 run to a 52-43 lead.

Oregon State then used runs of 5-0 and 6-0 in the next six minutes to pull ahead, 65-53.

Haskin had nine rebounds in the second half.

Stanford was led by Marcus Lollie with 17 points and Brent Williams with 15.
