The Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers probably will have to contend with rain and a slippery Candlestick Park turf Sunday when they play for the NFC championship.

“Rain is likely Sunday, possibly heavy at times,” said Duane Dykema of the National Weather Service. “It looks like more of what we’ve had all week.”

He said forecasts put the likelihood of rain Sunday at 90%.

“We don’t care if we play in the ice, sleet, rain or an earthquake,” Dallas defensive tackle Tony Casillas said.

The Cowboys practiced on a wet field Thursday to prepare for the expected bad conditions. However, most of the players were not worried about the prospect of playing on a poor field.

“Gale Sayers scored six touchdowns one time on a muddy field,” Dallas cornerback Issiac Holt said. “You think Emmitt Smith can’t do that?”

Meanwhile, the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins will play for the AFC championship Sunday in Miami under mostly sunny skies with 70-degree temperature and a tropical breeze, forecasters said.

“It should be ideal football weather,” said Bob Ebaugh of the National Weather Service.

The Super Bowl is two weeks away and the scramble is on for tickets. Believe it or not, a limited number remain available through the host committee.

The tickets for the Jan. 31 game at the Rose Bowl are part of packages that include a game ticket, preferred parking, a pregame meal and Super Bowl souvenirs.

They don’t come cheap: The packages cost $995, $1,250 and $1,750.

“The only reason we’re selling these packages at these prices is to fund the numerous events and activities being planned to enhance the experience of local fans and those visiting the Southland for the Super Bowl,” host committee spokesman Bruce Dworshak said. “Our expenses to host this game are approaching $4 million and our mandate is to use no tax money.”
