SEAL BEACH : City to Accept Bids for Repairs to Pier
- Share via
The city has moved a step closer to repairing a portion of the Seal Beach Pier damaged in a fire last year.
The City Council voted last week to accept bids from contractors seeking to make the repairs.
Officials hope to choose a contractor late next month and have all the work completed before the summer, City Manager Jerry L. Bankston said.
The repairs should cost about $175,000. Much of that money will go toward replacing the timber burned in the blaze.
The city has already spent about $25,000 on a temporary fence and some minor repairs.
The May 15 fire damaged about 75 feet of the pier’s midsection.
Although the pier was covered by insurance, the city must still pay a $100,000 deductible.
A group of residents has established a fund to help the cash-strapped city finance the deductible.
