BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Feverish Jacobsen Stays Hot in Crescenta Valley’s Victory Over Hoover

Playing with a fever of 101 degrees, Crescenta Valley High guard Adam Jacobsen scored 27 points to lead the visiting Falcons to a 72-62 victory over Hoover in a Pacific League boys’ game Tuesday night.

Jacobsen, who recently recovered from a sprained ankle, made three of six shots from three-point range. He has scored 20 or more points in 16 of Crescenta Valley’s 17 games.

Center Kevin Jakel boosted the Falcons (15-2, 3-1) with 16 points on seven-for-11 shooting and eight rebounds. Chad Reese led Hoover (7-11, 0-4) with 27 points.

Crescenta Valley guard Robert Miller was undercut shooting a layup in the first quarter and was taken to a local hospital after the game. Coach John Goffredo said he had no report on Miller’s status.

In other boys’ games:

Muir 88, Glendale 72--Glendale missed seven consecutive shots from the field late in the fourth quarter, allowing host Muir (15-4, 4-0) to pull away in the Pacific League game.

Glendale (12-6, 2-2) trailed, 63-60, with four minutes to play, but Michael O’Quinn, who led Muir with 23 points, made a three-point basket to ignite the Mustangs.

Edwin Bonilla led Glendale with 23 points and 10 rebounds. David Sofro made eight of 12 field-goal attempts and scored 20 points. Ramon Jose added 16.

Highland 49, Quartz Hill 41--Pharoah Davis scored a game-high 18 points and Brian Burleson added 16 lead the Bulldogs (8-7, 2-5) past visiting Quartz Hill (8-5, 4-4) in a Golden League game.

L. A. Baptist 60, Santa Paula 44--Reserve center Bill Meredith scored a game-high 22 points and had 10 rebounds for L. A. Baptist (10-5) in a nonleague game at Santa Paula.

Hart 67, Saugus 62--Hart’s starting five accounted for all of the Indians’ scoring in a Foothill League game at Hart. Matt Steffe scored 29 points to lead Hart (10-5, 3-0). David Sanders added 13. Hart made 17 of 21 free throws, including 10 of 13 in the fourth quarter.

Saugus (3-12, 0-3), which lost two last-second heartbreakers last week, trailed by two points with two minutes to play. Mike Williams (18 points) and John Dell (15) paced Saugus.

Canyon 56, Burroughs 53--Burroughs went on a 7-0 fourth-quarter run in the Foothill League game, and Mike Marina’s three-point basket gave them the lead, 53-52, with 1:30 to play. But Canyon’s Mike Beach made a tip-in with 43 seconds left, and a pair of free throws by Greg Minor sealed it for the Cowboys (9-7, 2-1).

Oakwood 69, Windward 34--Senior guard Brandon Dimassa had a triple-double, leading the Gorillas to a Liberty League victory. Dimassa scored 11 points, had 10 assists and grabbed 11 rebounds. Steve Slome scored 21 points for Oakwood (7-4, 1-1).

Village Christian 79, Maranatha 56--Four Crusaders scored in double figures in an Alpha League game. The Crusaders (12-4, 3-0) were led by Dave Fennell’s 19 points and 10 rebounds. Chad Hanson added 15 points. J.B. McLeod scored 12 and Jason Orso scored 11. Village Christian had 14 steals. Matt Hagman led Maranatha (7-9, 0-2) with 21 points.

Faith Baptist 52, Bel Air Prep 43--Despite shooting only 37% from the field and 52% from the free-throw line, Faith Baptist (10-7, 3-2) won the Delphic League home game on the play of T.J. McCoy, who scored 15 points, 10 in the final quarter.

Moorpark 73, Calabasas 63--The Musketeers jumped out to a 9-0 lead and outscored Calabasas, 22-12, in the third quarter. Moorpark forward Micah Hanson scored 28 points, including six three-pointers.

GIRLS

Westlake 41, Camarillo 31--Shannon Sincock scored eight of her game-high 12 points in the fourth quarter to help Westlake (10-8, 4-2) beat Camarillo (10-7, 3-4) in a Marmonte League game.

Village Christian 78, Maranatha 60--Freshman forward Lindy James had 29 points and 14 rebounds for the Crusaders in an Alpha League victory. Village Christian (12-4, 3-0) has won five in a row.

L.A. Lutheran 50, South Bay Lutheran 18--Deonna Olson had her first career triple-double, leading the Lions (9-3, 5-1) to a Heritage League victory. Olson scored 14 points, pulled down 11 rebounds and had 10 steals.

Hart 61, Saugus 40--Shannon Martin scored 25 points to lead Hart (12-5, 3-0) to a Foothill League victory. Martin, who made 11 of 13 shots from the field, scored 12 points during the decisive third quarter, when the Indians outscored Saugus, 19-2. Nicole Hicks led Saugus with 21 points.

Buena 85, Oxnard 25--The Bulldogs outscored Oxnard, 18-2, in the first quarter of the Channel League game. Buena (10-2, 6-0) was led by Julie Hardy (21 points), Mikko Giordano (18 points, six steals) and April Buck (15 points).

WOMEN

Christ College 70, The Master’s 56--The Master’s couldn’t contain guard Stacy Kirch, who had 18 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds. Audrey McMurray had 20 for the Mustangs (3-11).

Redlands 54, Cal Lutheran 47--Host Cal Lutheran fell in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game despite getting 15 points from Nicole Albert.
