GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Brea’s Erickson Sets Record With 11 Three-Pointers

Nicole Erickson set a Southern Section and Orange County record by making 11 three-pointers as top-ranked Brea-Olinda rolled over Savanna, 88-38, in an Orange League girls’ basketball game Thursday night at Brea-Olinda High School.

Erickson finished with 46 points, making 11 of 20 three-point shots, and had 10 assists, seven rebounds and four steals for Brea-Olinda (17-3, 4-0 in league), which led, 51-11, at halftime.

Erickson broke the record of 10 that was shared by Angie Cole of Simi Valley Royal and Debbie Fisher of Edison. During the 1989-90 season, Fisher hit 10 three-pointers twice and Cole did it once.

Sara Works scored 15 points for Savanna.

In other Orange League games:

Valencia 56, Anaheim 24--LaQuinta Alexander led Valencia with 16 points and Nikki Kubota added 15. Anaheim is 0-13, 0-4.

Western 35, Magnolia 22--Kwanzaa Gibson had 12 points for Western (8-10, 1-3). Magnolia is 2-2 in league.

In the Century League:

El Modena 56, Foothill 36--Jamie Shine had 19 points and 15 rebounds for host El Modena (7-8, 4-1). Katy Steinle scored 13 points for Foothill.

Santa Ana Valley 47, Orange 42--Marie Pulu scored 20 points for Santa Ana Valley. Gracila Cervantes had 14 for Orange.

Villa Park 50, Canyon 37--Maureen Skehan had 14 points, 12 rebounds and nine steals for Villa Park (9-6, 4-1). Villa Park’s Tara Earl led all scorers with 18 points. Canyon is 9-6, 3-2.

In the Empire League:

Cypress 62, Esperanza 39--Jessica Eggleston had 27 points and 18 rebounds for Cypress (13-6, 4-1). Esperanza is 9-8, 1-4.

El Dorado 68, Loara 41--Jody Caruso scored 14 points for visiting El Dorado (16-2, 3-2).

Katella 58, Los Alamitos 41--Kelsi Armbruster had 16 points and nine rebounds and Chris Carrillo had 13 points and seven assists for Katella (15-3, 4-1). Kristin Reyes scored 14 points for Los Alamitos (8-10, 3-2).

In the Olympic League:

Calvary Chapel 46, Brethren Christian 30--Blythe Linsey had 14 points, 17 rebounds and five blocked shots for host Calvary Chapel (10-7, 3-3). Joilin Hunt had 14 points for Brethren Christian (3-9, 0-6).

Capistrano Valley Christian 55, Ontario Christian 29--Marcy Giosa led Capistrano Valley Christian (12-4, 5-1) with 10 points.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Century 33, Laguna Hills 30--Laura Zepeda, who scored 19 points, made the game-winning three-pointer with two seconds remaining for visiting Century (9-9, 2-3).

Estancia 45, Laguna Beach 26--Laura Czingula had 16 points and Jenny Drake added 14 for visiting Estancia (11-8, 4-1). Marisa Waian scored 14 points for Laguna Beach (7-11, 1-4).

Costa Mesa 60, Trabuco Hills 36--Olivia DiCamilli had 21 points and 13 rebounds for Costa Mesa (16-4, 5-0), ranked third in the county. Jennifer Ross scored 15 points for Trabuco Hills.

In the Sea View League:

University 59, Corona del Mar 46--Pamela Loud scored 15 points and Rashida Smith and Jennifer Stanley added 14 each for University (9-7, 5-2). Mollie Flint led Corona del Mar (10-6, 3-4) with 28 points.

Newport Harbor 79, Irvine 42--Michaela Ross had 20 points, eight steals and seven rebounds for eighth-ranked Newport Harbor (12-5, 7-0).

Tustin 60, Saddleback 29--Katie Scheuerman scored 17 points and Janet Salapski had 13 for Tustin (7-10, 3-4).

Woodbridge 73, Santa Margarita 57--Jamie Oenning had 19 points, eight rebounds and six steals for Woodbridge (13-5, 6-1). Lesley Nolan had 25 points for Santa Margarita (5-10, 3-4).

In the South Coast League:

Capistrano Valley 49, Dana Hills 38--Angie White had 22 points, 18 in the second half, and finished with eight assists for visiting Capistrano Valley (14-3, 5-0), ranked fourth in Orange County.

Adara Newidouski scored 15 points for Dana Hills (13-5, 2-3), ranked 10th in the county.

Mission Viejo 45, El Toro 41--Kortney Okura scored 16 points for Mission Viejo (12-6, 2-3). Wendy Watson scored 13 for El Toro (2-13, 0-5).

San Clemente 54, Mater Dei 51--Host San Clemente (11-8, 3-2) rallied from a 10-point first-quarter deficit to upset the seventh-ranked Monarchs (11-5, 3-2). Dana Netherby finished with 18 points and 13 rebounds while teammate Michelle MacIntrye led all scorers with 22 points.
