Toros Lose Game to Riverside at Home

Rachel Rosario had 25 points and 21 rebounds as the UC Riverside women’s basketball team defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills, 77-67, Thursday night in a California Collegiate Athletic Assn. game at Toro gym.

Rosario, the nation’s leading rebounder in NCAA Division II play at 16 a game, helped the Highlanders (11-8, 3-2 in the CCAA) to a 42-35 halftime lead.

The Toros were led by Dionne Vanlandingham with 15 points. Erika Manning added 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Dominguez Hills (10-7, 2-2) will play host to conference co-leader Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Saturday night.

The Loyola Marymount women’s basketball team will play host to San Francisco and St. Mary’s in West Coast Conference games today and Saturday at Gersten Pavilion.

The Lions play San Francisco at 7:30 tonight and St. Mary’s at 5:15 p.m. Saturday.

Loyola, which lost road games to both teams last week, is 11-5 and 2-2 in the conference.

San Francisco (10-6) has been led by senior guards Amy Touli and Tami Adkins. Touli is fifth in the conference in scoring with a 15.1-point average and leads in three-point baskets with 16. Adkins averages 11.8 points, 5.9 rebounds and 5.3 assists.

St. Mary’s (8-8) has been led by senior guards Fran Fabien and Christina Marshall. Fabien averages 12.3 points and a conference-leading 3.0 assists, and Marshall averages 10.4 points.

Loyola has two of the top offensive players in the conference in junior forward Sheri Brown, who averages 17.4 points, 10.2 rebounds and 2.8 steals, and 6-foot-5 freshman center Amy Lundquist, who is averaging 10.5 points and 8.4 rebounds.

The Dominguez Hills men’s basketball team returns to CCAA play Saturday when it travels to Chapman for an 8:05 p.m. game.

Dominguez Hills, which defeated The Master’s College, 66-60, on Tuesday, is 12-5 and in fourth place in the conference at 3-3. Chapman is 5-13 and 2-4.

Dominguez Hills has been led by former Carson High players Raymond Bennett and Vincent Washington. Bennett, a senior guard, is averaging 14.7 points and Washington, a senior forward, averages 13.7 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.2 rebounds.

Sophomore guard Chris Thompson averages 11.6 points and junior forward Joe Bertrand is the team’s top rebounder with a 7.9 average.
