HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Notre Dame Wins on Carson’s Free Throw

Alemany High tried to call a timeout despite having used them all, and Notre Dame’s Glen Carson hit the ensuing technical foul shot with one second to play, giving the Knights a 67-66 Mission League victory on Friday night.

Notre Dame (17-5, 8-2 in league play) was led in scoring by Monte Marcaccini (18 points). David Winner led Alemany (6-14, 2-8) with 23 points.

In other boys’ basketball games:

Chatsworth 62, San Fernando 54--Marcel Wilson scored a team-high 16 points to lead Chatsworth in a Northwest Valley Conference game at San Fernando.

Brady Mertes added 14 points, and Trenell Floyd had 12 for Chatsworth (10-8, 4-0). Jerome Elliott scored 18 points for San Fernando (8-7, 2-2).

Taft 86, El Camino Real 66--Johnny Williams, a 6-foot-7 center, had 25 points and 15 rebounds, and Lamont Magee added 22 points as visiting Taft (7-7, 2-2) spoiled a 34-point effort by El Camino Real’s Charles Adams in a Northwest Valley Conference game.

Kennedy 79, Granada Hills 69--Joe Wyatt scored a game-high 27 points to lead Kennedy (6-12, 1-3) to a Northwest Valley Conference win. Jermon Cooks had 24 points and 11 rebounds for Kennedy. Tyrone Jackman led Granada Hills (2-13, 0-4) with 19 points.

Poly 62, Sylmar 54--Rudy Arriaza scored a team-high 16 points for host Poly in a Mid-Valley League game. Poly (4-9, 2-4) made 11 of 12 free throws in the fourth quarter to offset three three-point baskets by Sylmar’s Deon Price (18 points).

Sherman Oaks CES 60, Van Nuys 53--John Cannon scored 34 points and added 15 rebounds to lead Sherman Oaks (2-10, 1-4) in an East Valley League Valley game at home. Cesar Felici scored 25 points for Van Nuys.

North Hollywood 69, Grant 49--Damon Ollie scored 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, and Fantasia Johnson added 15 points and six assists as North Hollywood (19-1, 6-0) opened a 41-15 halftime lead en route to a convincing East Valley League victory at home.

Verdugo Hills 75, Lincoln 68--Brothers Angelo and Bryan De Los Reyes each made six three-pointers and scored 22 points to lead host Verdugo Hills (4-10, 4-4) in a Northern Conference game. Eddie Powell had 21 points, 17 rebounds and 12 assists.

Village Christian 49, Marshall Fundamental 43--Bill Oliver had 16 points, and David Fennell had 12 points, nine rebounds and four steals for Village Christian (16-4, 5-0) in an Alpha League game.

Fillmore 65, St. Bonaventure 49--Fillmore (2-15, 1-4) won the Tri-Valley League game behind Scott DeCuir (14 points and 10 rebounds) and Justin Burnett (13 points, all in the second half).

Westlake 56, Channel Islands 53--Brad Schwan scored a team-high 17 points and added 10 rebounds to lead Westlake (8-12, 4-6) in a Marmonte League game at Channel Islands. Dewauen Nunnery had 20 points for Channel Islands.

Arcadia 46, Glendale 44--David Sofro (21 points) made two jump shots to tie the score with 19 seconds left for Glendale (12-8, 2-4), but Arcadia’s Matt Campbell (16 points) answered with a three-point play that decided the Pacific League game.

St. Genevieve 66, St. Monica 64--Ryan McGinnis totaled 16 points and 11 rebounds, Jeremy Iaccino had 15 points and seven assists, and Tony Bermudez added 14 points and 11 rebounds to lead St. Genevieve (11-9, 4-2) in a Camino Real League game.

Bell-Jeff 63, La Salle 50--Dan Mancinelli scored a team-high 22 points and Jeritt Waddell added 15 to lift Bell-Jeff (7-12, 2-4) to a Camino Real League victory.

Hueneme 64, Buena 53--Wendell Nunnery had 16 points and 12 rebounds to pace Hueneme (12-6, 7-2) in a Channel League game at Buena. Adam Fairbanks scored 22 points for Buena.

Santa Clara 75, Moorpark 51--Scott Carranza (18 points), Dave Varela (17) and Brian Clark (16) paced visiting Santa Clara (16-5, 5-0) in a Frontier League game.

Simi Valley 83, Royal 56--Ryan Briggs had 13 points and 12 assists to lead host Simi Valley (17-5, 8-2) in a Marmonte League game.

Agoura 39, Camarillo 38--Brian Laibow and Jeff Niemann led Agoura (13-7, 6-4) with seven points in a defensive-minded game at Camarillo. Jim Harbour scored 13 points to lead Camarillo.

Montclair Prep 73, Western Christian 55--Les Sweet had 20 points and 12 rebounds, Jerome Joseph added 15 points and six assists and Greg Rosen had 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Mounties (13-6) in a nonleague game.

Hart 60, Saugus 50--Hart’s Cody Patterson (19 points, 12 rebounds) and Matt Steffe (17 and 10) dominated the Foothill League game. Mike Williams had 16 points for Saugus, but Hart (14-5, 7-0) won its 12th game in a row.

Nordhoff 35, Santa Paula 33--Mark Sebek scored 16 points to lead the Rangers (10-7, 3-2) to a Frontier League victory.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Kennedy 77, Chatsworth 29--Shaneya Harris had a triple-double for Kennedy (10-5, 4-0) in the Northwest Valley Conference game, scoring 28 points, grabbing 10 rebounds and collecting 10 steals. Keosha Tidwell had 18 points, 10 steals and nine assists.

Monroe 47, Birmingham 41--Michele Zamora had 14 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists, Anna Marquez had 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Dimara Haymond had eight points and 16 rebounds for Monroe (6-2, 5-0 in the East Valley League). Valerie Vargas scored 20 for Birmingham.

Nordhoff 51, Santa Paula 43--Maria Garcia scored 15 points and added 11 rebounds and teammate Rachel McSorley had 12 points and 12 rebounds for Nordhoff (18-1, 5-0) in a Frontier League game.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Village Christian 2, Marshall Fundamental 0--Ignacio Brache scored both goals and goalkeeper Tim White made 20 saves to lead the Crusaders (2-9-1, 1-3) to an Alpha League victory.

Calabasas 2, Santa Paula 1--Jeff Toms scored both goals for the Coyotes (9-3-2, 3-0-1), who remained undefeated in the Frontier League. Joseph Jauregui scored for Santa Paula (9-8-1, 1-3).

Alemany 3, Notre Dame 2--Sean Dinse’s penalty kick goal with five minutes to play was the difference as Alemany won a Mission League game at home.

Burroughs 4, Canyon 0--Marc Binda posted his ninth shutout and Ryan Fitzpatrick and Roberto Perez each scored two goals for the Indians (13-2-2, 6-0-1) in a Foothill League match.
