It’s not as if Santiago’s opponents don’t know what to expect. Mosqueda, who set the Santiago single-season scoring record with 25 goals last season as a junior, is dangerous with the ball. “Everybody knows he’s the biggest threat,” Cavalier Coach Sean Redmond said. “But even with that, he’s still able to make things happen. The fact that he’s always unselfish and that he cares most about the team winning, makes it perfect.” Last week was exceptional, even for Mosqueda. He scored a school-record five goals in a 5-2 victory over Bolsa Grande on Friday and had two goals in the Cavaliers’ 4-2 victory over La Quinta on Monday. The Garden Grove League victories kept first-place Santiago (10-2-1, 8-0 in league) 1 1/2 games in front of Pacifica. Mosqueda has 23 goals this season.

Other top performers:

Bryan Chang, who scored 21 points, including nine in the last 1 minute 10 seconds to help Huntington Beach defeat Ocean View, 63-54.

Jamie Miller, who scored two goals in Laguna Hills’ 4-0 victory over Costa Mesa. He scored three goals--all on headers--in a 5-1 victory over Laguna Beach, and scored one in a 1-0 victory over Laguna Beach.
