ROUNDUP : Thompson Scores 23 Points to Help Dominguez Hills Earn Win on Road

Sophomore guard Chris Thompson, who sat out Thursday night’s loss at UC Riverside because of a sprained knee, returned Saturday night to score 23 points in 24 minutes to lead Cal State Dominguez Hills to a 69-66 road win over Cal State San Bernardino.

Thompson made eight of 11 shots from the field, including five three-point baskets.

Senior forward Vince Washington added 13 points and a career-high 14 rebounds, helping offset the scoring of San Bernardino’s Develle Walker, who had 29 points.

Dominguez Hills will play host Cal Poly San Luis Obispo at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Junior guard Karee Bonde made five three-point baskets and senior forward Denise Slater added a game-high 16 points and eight rebounds as the Dominguez Hills women defeated Chapman, 76-58, in a California Collegiate Athletic Assn. game at Carson.

The win keeps the Toros (12-8, 4-3 in league play) within two-games of first place Cal Poly Pomona in the CCAA race. Chapman is 2-17 and 0-7.

Dana Kernan scored 16 points to lead Santa Clara to a 67-47 victory over Loyola Marymount in a West Coast Conference women’s basketball game at Santa Clara.

Freshman center Amy Lundquist led the Lions (13-7, 4-4 in conference) with 24 points and 11 rebounds.

Loyola plays host to Santa Clara (11-8, 5-2) Friday.

The USC men’s volleyball team defeated Loyola, 15-5, 15-9, 15-7, in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match at USC.

The Trojans have a 45-1 lead in the series and have won the past 37 matches. The only win for the Lions came in 1976, when USC’s program didn’t offer scholarships.
