Erin Martin of Temple City High was named to the Parade magazine All-American girls’ soccer team.

Martin, a senior, set a state single-season record in 1992 when she scored 93 goals, including a record 11 during a 13-0 victory over San Gabriel.

Martin, a three-time All-Southern Section player, has 66 goals this season and is the national career record holder with 281. She is also participating in Olympic Development Program.

Bob Rau, who coached the Duarte football team to the Mission Valley League championship and Division VI title game last season, has been named coach at Buena Park.

Rau, who coached previously at La Habra, guided Duarte to a 12-1 record. The Falcons lost to Valencia in the Division VI championship game.

Derek Knowles of Cal State Los Angeles and Mildred Conston of Cal Poly Pomona were named players of the week in the California Collegiate Athletic Assn.

Knowles, a 6-foot-4 senior guard, scored 30 points during a 69-64 loss to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and had 23 during a 75-61 loss to Cal State Bakersfield.

Cal State L.A. entered the week 12-7 and 4-5 in conference play.

Conston, a 6-2 junior center, had 12 points and 15 rebounds during the Broncos’ 74-47 victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills. She scored 25 points during an 84-49 victory over Cal State L.A.

Pomona, ranked 10th in Division II, entered the week 18-2 and 6-1 in the CCAA.

Mt. San Antonio College received a $72,000 grant from the Amateur Athletic Foundation for the staging of the Youth Days portion of the Mt. SAC Relays, April 9-10 in Walnut.

Youth Days activities include clinics, assemblies and competitions for children in grades 3 through 9.

A fund-raiser basketball game between the Duarte coaching staff and a team of current and former professional football players that is expected to include Lester Hayes and Charles White will be played Friday at Duarte High.

Proceeds will benefit the Duarte wrestling program.

Cal State Los Angeles will induct three former athletes into the school’s hall of fame Feb. 19.

Larry Smith, who played tennis at Cal State L.A. from 1957-59, Ken Lohnes (baseball, 1968-70) and Martin Vasquez (soccer, 1981- 84) will be honored at a banquet at the Tower Restaurant in the Transamerica building in downtown Los Angeles.

A pro-am celebrity tennis and golf tournament that will benefit shelters for battered women and children will be played April 30 and May 1 at La Verne Country Club.

Tournament proceeds will aid the WINGS shelters in Eastern Los Angeles County and San Bernardino and Riverside counties.
