A Fontana man was charged Friday with gunning down a relative in the parking lot of an Irvine business complex after a dispute, police and prosecutors said.

Aramis Jaranilla, 46, is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Municipal Court in Newport Beach on a charge of murder and using a gun stemming from the Wednesday afternoon slaying of Willie Uy Jr., 34, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Randolph J. Pawloski.

Irvine Police Department Detective Mike Welch said the men were related by Jaranilla’s marriage to Uy’s second cousin. Police believe a long-simmering dispute led to the slaying.

“We’re still looking into what happened,” Welch said. Pawloski declined to discuss the case because it is still under investigation.

Uy, a sales representative for New York Life Insurance Co., was helping move company supplies and documents into a new office building at 7700 Irvine Center Drive in Irvine when Jaranilla approached him and fired several times, police said.

Jaranilla then fled the area, officials said. Two witnesses chased the suspect and used a car telephone to notify police about Jaranilla’s whereabouts, while witnesses at the scene also made note of his license plate for authorities.

Jaranilla is being held in lieu of $250,000 bail.
