COMMUNITY COLLEGE BASKETBALL PLAYOFFS : Golden West Women Seeded First in 16-Team Bracket
Golden West, the Orange Empire Conference champion, is the top-seeded team in the 16-team field of the Southern California women’s basketball playoff pairings, announced Sunday.
Golden West (32-2) plays host to No. 16 Antelope Valley (16-12) in a 7 p.m. game Wednesday. The winner advances to the second round Saturday against the winner of the No. 9 Los Angeles Trade Tech (19-7) and No. 8 Southwestern (17-6) game.
Orange Coast (25-5) is the third-seeded team in the playoffs. The Pirates open at home against No. 14 San Diego Mesa (13-15). The winner plays the winner of No. 11 Santa Monica (21-10) at No. 6 Cerritos (20-9).
In Wednesday’s other games: No. 12 Santa Barbara City (16-13) at No. 5 Los Angeles Valley (29-4); No. 13 Bakersfield (16-12) at No. 4 L.A. Harbor (26-3); No. 10 Chaffey (21-9) at No. 7 Cuesta (23-7) and No 15 College of the Desert (14-12) at No. 2 Ventura (24-4).
The four winners of Saturday’s games advance to the State tournament, March 4-6 at Ventura.
The men’s pairings will be announced today.
