Coach: Jeff Grosse (15th year)
1992: Second in the South Coast League; fourth at the 4-A championship meet.
Key returners: Daniel Julson, Sr.; Ian Pyka, Jr.; Jay Reaves, Jr.; Tyce Routson, Jr. diver; John Simmons, Sr.; Matt Tilton, Jr.
Key newcomers: Terry Dougherty, So.; Brent Stoll, Jr.; Brandon Stout, Jr.
Outlook: This could be the best team Grosse has had at El Toro. It has a star in Simmons, who won the the 100-yard backstroke and 100 freestyle at the 4-A championship meet last season. It has experience in Julson, Pyka, Reaves and Tilton, all of whom competed at the 4-A meet. It has comers in Dougherty, Stoll and Stout. It has a diver in Routson, who was second in the 4-A last season. “We don’t have a lot of super guys, but we have more guys who can score points at the championship meet then we’ve had in a while,” Grosse said. Two years ago, the Chargers surprised many by upsetting perennial powerhouse Mission Viejo in the South Coast League finals. This year, they could challenge the Diablos for the Division I title.
