Outlook: Simcox has the chore of replacing Tom DeLong, who retired after 27 years. The Knights are very formidable despite losing three standout swimmers. Chaix is the best of the bunch, having finished second in the 100-yard freestyle at the 4-A championship meet a year ago. The Knights should be strong in the freestyle events with Pflueger and Weaver in the middle distance events and Chaix, Cowdell, Hay and Lang in the sprints. Lang was an alternate in the 50 freestyle at the 4-A meet. Simcox expects to have a solid 4x100 relay team from that group. “I think we have the capabilities to be a strong relay by the time the championship meet rolls around,” Simcox said. Hay and Cowdell are also expected to qualify in the breaststroke. Palluck will be a contender in the individual medley.
