Los Alamitos guard Tim Lin scored 33 points, including a career-high nine three-pointers, but Los Angeles Loyola defeated the Griffins, 99-91, Tuesday night in a Division I-A boys’ playoff game at Loyola High.

The Griffins’ other guard, Steve Carbone, added 31 points. Los Alamitos ends its season at 20-7.

“Their full-court press gave us a lot of problems and that’s where we lost the game,” Los Alamitos Coach Steve Brooks said. “Give Loyola a lot of credit. They are a very good team and had a good game plan.”

The one player that gave the Griffins particular fits Tuesday night was senior forward Toby Bailey, who led Loyola (19-7) with 31 points and 11 rebounds.

“(Bailey) is an outstanding ballplayer,” Brooks said. “It he continues to improve steadily in the summer, he will play college basketball when he’s done at Loyola.”

While Brooks was handing out compliments at one end of the court, Loyola Coach Bill Thomason said he was surprised by the performances of Lin and Carbone.

“I didn’t know that they could shoot the ball so well,” Thomason said.
