Fountain Valley’s Elinor Tolson established herself as one of the section’s premiere sprinters at Saturday’s Sunkist Invitational. Tolson won her race in the 50 meter hurdles in 7.79 seconds, the fastest of any Southern California runner. The fastest time belonged to San Jose Independence’s Jennifer Odom (7.66). Foothill’s Katie Mook (8.09) and Santa Margarita’s Heather Novak (8.13) had the sixth- and seventh-fastest overall times, and the third- and fourth-fastest in the Southern Section.

Meisha Wilson-Duval didn’t win her 50-meter sprint at the Sunkist Invitational, but she was a winner nevertheless. It was announced Saturday that she was voted by her classmates as the sophomore queen at the Woodbridge Winter Formal.

In the race, she finished third in her heat, clocking 6.78 seconds. It was the ninth-fastest time among the 17 runners in the four heats.

“My start was really good, probably one of the best I’ve ever had,” Wilson-Duval said. “In the middle of my race, I just froze. That’s when everybody caught me.

“I think my nerves got me.”
