Two Compton Officers Slain

Share

The Thin Blue Line is a little thinner now with the gunning down and execution killing of two Compton police officers (“Two Compton Officers Slain in Traffic Stop,” Feb. 24). It is ironic that such an event should occur just as the second Rodney King incident trial is beginning for four Los Angeles Police Department officers.

This tragic but deliberate event should strongly reinforce the fact that all “motorists” are not docile law-abiding citizens, and that peace officers should have our public support for proper weapons search procedures--where public and officer safety are at issue--even with uncooperative and egotistical individuals.

A sad reflection of our society is the fact that these officers will be quickly forgotten. Two years hence, there will be no media hand-wringing or attempt at deification of these victims of real brutality. There will be no large monetary awards for the violation of their ultimate civil right, to life, while standing between good people and evil.
