SOCCER ROUNDUP : Late Goals Lift Arcadia Girls to Championship

The mood on the Anaheim Hills Canyon High sideline went from celebration to despair in the final seven minutes Saturday at Gahr High in Cerritos as Arcadia won, 2-1, in the Southern Section girls’ Division II soccer championship game.

Corinne Roberge scored Arcadia’s tying goal at 73:13 and Michelle Kennedy took a setup by Roberge and Stephanie DeCastro and put an eight-yard indirect free kick into the net with 13 seconds to play to win it for the top-seeded Apaches (27-1-2).

The indirect kick came when referee Pat Pyle called Lauren Carlson of Canyon (25-2) for obstruction inside her penalty area.

Los Altos 3, Norco 0--Striker Kari Hart scored twice in the second half for the Conquerors (23-2-1) in the girls’ Division III final. Erica Avina also added a goal for second-seeded Los Altos (23-2-1). Unseeded Norco fell to 18-4-5.

Pasadena Poly 2, Thousand Oaks La Reina 1--In Division IV, Kim Rakow scored 6 1/2 minutes into the first of two 10-minute overtime periods to lift the top-seeded Panthers (23-0-4) to their third consecutive section championship. Tamra Cutter’s header gave La Reina (18-4-1) an early lead, but Jennifer Giampaolo tied it at the end of the first half.

Corona Centennial 1, Santa Margarita 1--After playing a scoreless regulation, Ruben Tavares scored at 83:47 for Centennial (21-0-5) and Jeff Maguire scored for Santa Margarita (25-1-4) at 84:31 in Division IV.

Alta Loma 0, Chaffey 0--John King of Alta Loma (24-2-4) hit the crossbar in the final minute of the first overtime, allowing Chaffey (16-5-7) to escape with a co-championship in the Division III boys final.
